Prince June 7th 1958 – April 21st 2016.

Unknown

Fast becoming a epic year of loss, anther legend passes in 2016. This time the icon that is Prince.

It really has been a year of huge losses in the world of popular culture. It seems that almost every week, we are paying tribute to the people who made us sing, dance, laugh, cry and so much more. Actors, Comedians, Singers, Legends 2016 is taking no prisoners. I can’t help but feel who is next.

With the sudden and shocking passing of Prince last Thursday 21st April. The world lost more than just another singer, Prince was so many amazing things all rolled into one. He never let anyone dictate how he should or shouldn’t be seen and was never a puppet in the music industry. Combining funk, R&B, Soul, Pop and so much more to create some of the most timeless music ever. With nearly 40 albums under his belt, over 100 million records sold, his legacy will live on forever. A man who could play over 27 instruments and not just satisfied writing incredible music for himself. He penned huge hits for: Sinead O’Conor, The Bangles, Alicia Keys, Tom Jones and more. Not bad for a small town kid who’s background was so poor growing up he would stand outside McDonalds just to smell the food.

He reportedly wrote a new song every single day, so in a similar vein to TuPac we could be hearing new music from Prince for years to come.  A very sad end to the month of April continuing the sad trend of celebrity deaths in 2016. Legends however live forever and never die! We have to appreciate that regardless of whether you were bought up listening to Prince, are a halfway fan or possibly only really hearing of him now that he has passed. Great music lives on forever and generations to come will be inspired and touched by the legend called Prince.

Everything from Soul, Jazz, Classical, Rock, Pop you name it, it was on the stereo when I was growing up. I got into HipHop in 93/94 and the rest as they say is history! From a long haired skateboard kid growing up in Glastonbury, via Edinburgh for a few years. Now making moves in London for the last ten years and counting. My journey has been fuelled by music. I have been DJ'ing for the best part of ten years, starting of as a DMC battle DJ after smashing my way through the Scottish DMC finals, through to the London DMC finals. I turned my hand to mix cds, then radio, as well as tearing up dance floors from Edinburgh to London town then back again. Sharing the stage with everyone from Trevor Nelson to Cutmaster Swift along the way. I have passed my knowledge and skills on as a DJ tutor and I was the scratch DJ for Sky Sports, for their weekly football show "Premier League Preview". My blog here is to keep you up to date with the latest news from the urban world, reviews, write ups, features. As well as positive, mindful blogs, tell a friend to tell a friend.
