Chip drops the most controversial ‘Fire In The Booth’ ever!
Chip makes his long over due return to the booth with Charlie Sloth.
The past 18 months or so have been incredible for UK music and Chip has been at war for most of it. Most notably his war with Bugzy Malone, which quite literally had the whole country watching and commenting adding fuel to the fire.
I was personally very surprised when i saw that Charlie Sloth had bought Chip back for round three. First of a huge amount of respect has to be given to Charlie Sloth for putting a lot of industry created issues aside. A fresh attempt to clear the air with Chip and even inviting Chip live on air to ask Charlie anything he wanted!
Chip will go down as arguably one of the hardest and fiercest MCs to ever come out of the UK. Of course we all know that Chip has been at war since his second fire in the booth. Going toe to toe and blow to blow with Manchester’s Bugzy Malone, yet still finding time to fire shots at Tinie Tempha and then Yungen.
So round three in the booth, for me personally this was exactly what i expected. I was shocked a little taken back, but overall i knew Chip would use this session to say what he wanted and not hold back. A ten minute session with just one 3 minute track was about right for Chip. Especially when he disses Charlie Sloth with his first lyric on that track!
Now love him, hate him whatever it maybe, Chip has balls! He gets invited back to 1Xtra to do his third fire in the booth. Then disses the guy he invited him back, on his own show, in his own studio. Just let that sink in for a moment. Charlie did call Chip on it and actually credited Chip for his honesty and his audacity to do that. Chip then goes in tearing the game apart and showing the world why he is one of the UKs greatest MCs. Double time flows, grime flows, hiphop flows. Then his own personal touches all thrown in on his one and only track. This is an exceptional session with the internet already saying this is the best ever fire in the booth!
Spending around 7minutes on a ‘Chip’ rant about the industry and other MCs, was all to be expected. He raised some very interesting and relevant points and i credit Chip highly for saying these. One of the biggest was when Charlie spoke with Charlemagne about UK rappers. This chat was streamed live and on the live stream Bugzy Malone was rumoured to be slated by Charlemagne. When the edited video was posted on youtube, this was all edited out, with no mention of Bugzy Malone at all. Chip went in on this and quite rightly thinks the whole unedited footage should be made available in the public domain.
Strong, no holds barred, highly political and spicy. This is another huge fire in the booth that will have fans, critics, bloggers and everyone in between taking sides. Was Chip wrong to diss Charlie? Should Chip have held back a little? Should he have rapped more? Should Chip have gone in harder on his thoughts? Alas the saga continues.
