Laid back late night vibes, Ricko teams up with Detroit heavyweight Guilty Simpson for new track ‘Work Ethic’.
This is the perfect soundtrack for my evening as its late Sunday night as i am taking in this latest offering from London based words smith Ricko. Taken from his forth coming debut project ‘The Slick Rick LP’.
They say anything worth doing is worth doing right. Thats exactly what Ricko has done here, pairing up with Detroit heavyweight Guilty Simpson this is mellow downtime music at its finest.
Its easy to get lost in the day to day hustle and life can grind away at you, thats why you need down time, you time. Thats the talking point of ‘Work Ethic’ as we are treated to a lyrical and visual story with Ricko as he takes us on a journey through his chill time. Ricko takes the art of laid-back word play to new heights with smoothness and ease. Guilty Simpson steps up for a power house guest spot and keeps the mood and tempo just right. With his deep melodious signature voice, easy going flow and perfect punchlines. This epitomises the perfect guest spot and a quality choice from Ricko.
A minimal, catchy jazz production is the foundation here produced by Dave Mars. Who managed to slot in a dreamy flute hook that floats through the production like a lost summer day. Ricko and Guilty Simpson sound so at home on this track, they should move in.
Look out for ‘The Slick Rick LP’ released September 29th across all good digital platforms.
