Reebok ‘Classics’ The Trainer of 2016.?

One of the most timeless trainers the Reebok ‘Classic’ dominates 2016.

Its been a huge year as always for trainers with classic styles and new additions dominating the market.

With Adidas continuing to dominate the market in 2016 with their classic range of: Superstars, Gazelle, Stan Smiths and new additions the NMD, Tubular and Kanye Wests ‘Yeezys’. Plus Puma dropping collaborations with Rhianna and of course global leader Nike running at the head of the pack with the biggest range of all. But for me the star of 2016 is the simple, understated Reebok ‘Classic Leather’.

Started with humble roots Reebok started in Bolton in 1958. I am sure they never guessed that 5o years on they would have created one of the most timeless trainers of all time. Of course now Reebok is a billion dollar brand making trainers, clothing and equipment, making huge deals with the NFL, NBA, UFC and many others and is now owned by Adidas.

My first exposure to Reebok was back in the early 90s when my friend had a pair of Reebok Pumps with the ground breaking pump up tongue technology. Since then Reebok have always been in the midst or just on the edge of trends within the UK and the world.

This year though the original ‘Classic’ has reached new heights. With the introduction of new uppers of suede, fabric, multiple colour ways and designs. The ‘Classic’ is back in a big way arguably it never went away with everyone being a fan of one of the most simplistic and well made trainers of all time. From football casuals, to music heads this is a trainer that everyone must own at some point in their life.

2015/2016 has seen the likes of Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar and many others getting behind the mighty ‘Classic’. But why has it dominated 2016 with so much ease? Quite simply Reebok have not messed with formula that isn’t broken. Yes there are some amazing colour ways across the mens and ladies range. But the foundations have stayed the same, simple, comfort and classic attention to detail. The Union Jack logo as well as the three crossed pattern across the side detail which is a  abstract take on the Union jack all remain. Plus in 2016 most of the ‘Classic’ range have received a gum sole which on the all white colour way finish it with understated ease.

This year alone has seen my collection have two ‘Classics’ added to it in one month alone. As well as buying a pair for my friend from the ladies range. 80% of people i know have all been rocking classics throughout 2016. Its been a roller coaster year with Adidas dominating with the mighty ‘NMD’ but Reebok have come out on top. If you don’t own a pair of ‘Classics’ get a pair now or add them to your Christmas list.
