Hashtag$ Season 2 presents: Grime.

HashTag$ Season 2 – Grime. An insightful look into the world of Grime.

With Grime bigger, badder and far reaching as it is now within the UK and beyond. Red Bull Music Academy present Hashtags – Grime. A  15 minute documentary breaking down the origins of Grime and its future potential.

A well put together, punchy documentary, which is raw and honest. This is a must watch for anyone with an interest in Grime, even if thats just a fleeting interest. Taking in contributions from a who’s who of the scene including: Sir Spyro. Mista Jam, Annie Mac and countless others all giving their own takes on the genre.

By no means the definitive Grime documentary, this is still a great overview of one of the most exciting music genres in the world. Focusing a lot on how the Americans see the genre, where they think its going is interesting. I don’t think personally its that relevant though, as grime started in and around East London and is now reaching the far corners of the world. Endorsements from Kanye West & Drake all help push the genre further but grime is a UK thing regardless of the Americans co sign or not.

Some interesting and insightful contributions come from Mista Jam and Sir Spyro. Who are both personally so ingrained within the genre contributing directly to a lot of the success the genre is now starting to see.

A great way to kill 15 minutes though, well worth a watch.

Everything from Soul, Jazz, Classical, Rock, Pop you name it, it was on the stereo when I was growing up. I got into HipHop in 93/94 and the rest as they say is history! From a long haired skateboard kid growing up in Glastonbury, via Edinburgh for a few years. Now making moves in London for the last ten years and counting. My journey has been fuelled by music. I have been DJ'ing for the best part of ten years, starting of as a DMC battle DJ after smashing my way through the Scottish DMC finals, through to the London DMC finals. I turned my hand to mix cds, then radio, as well as tearing up dance floors from Edinburgh to London town then back again. Sharing the stage with everyone from Trevor Nelson to Cutmaster Swift along the way. I have passed my knowledge and skills on as a DJ tutor and I was the scratch DJ for Sky Sports, for their weekly football show "Premier League Preview". My blog here is to keep you up to date with the latest news from the urban world, reviews, write ups, features. As well as positive, mindful blogs, tell a friend to tell a friend.
