Skatta teams up with Krxnic for the grime/hiphop hybrid – Living On The Brink.
A huge week for Grime with Stormzy debut album going straight into the number one spot in the official UK album charts. The fastest selling Grime album to date and huge attention from all areas of the world and popular media. While the whole world seems to be looking at London Town, those of us in the know have had one eye and both ears tuned to the Midlands.
Its been a roller coaster 12 months for Coventry’s finest Skatta. He reached national levels of attention with the flawless grime remix of the Streets timeless garage classic ‘Has It Come To This’. Following that up by hitting up BBC 1Xtra, Pyro & Fubar radio with guest spots and take over shows, the release of his debut album as well as gong toe to toe with Drastiik last week. Its safe to say that Skatta has been putting in the work across all levels and he is not slowing down.
His latest release alongside Krxnic, shows Skatta is a man of many, many talents. Not just content with shelling down over grime riddims & dropping head nodding, tongue twisting grime bars and sending the likes of Drastiik to an early grime grave along the way. He can also take on hiphop with swagger and finesse as he shows us with ease here, with thoughtful lyricism and well thought through flows.
A big drum production under pinned with a melancholy piano rift is the stage that Skatta and Krxnic step on and burn down in the process. Stepping up first SK drops a mixture of knowledge from the streets to music stages, all blended together with metaphors and subliminal bars.
‘I Can Switch In The Bits, Like A Wizard With Tricks.’
Not to be out done Krxnic steps up taking control of the second half of the track. Giving us a mixture of hiphop flows with grime undertones matching the beat like the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle. A hybrid mix of street flavour with heartfelt content Krxnic is the epitome of why the Midlands is such a hot bed of lyrical talent.
